Every Child, Every Chance, Every Day
Welcome to Buckland Newton Primary School
On behalf of myself, the staff and governors, I would like to warmly welcome you to Buckland Newton Church of England Primary School. We are a very successful village school and the highest achieving school in the area. We are equidistant from both Dorchester and Sherborne and our school is very much part of the local community – we have strong links with the Church. We have wonderful support from the Governing Body, parents, a band of volunteers from the community and our FBNS (Friends of Buckland Newton School). We are committed to excellence in education and aim to excite children’s imaginations through a range of engaging and challenging learning experiences within a Christian environment.

We are currently ranked as the highest performing primary school in Dorset overall. We were delighted to have received a letter earlier this year from Nick Gibb, who is the Minister of State for Standards at the Department of Education, congratulating us on our very high progress scores between Key Stage 1 and 2 and ranking us in the top 2% of schools in the whole of England. At Buckland Newton we truly believe in educating the whole child and giving the children as many opportunities and learning experiences as we possibly can in all subjects, whether they are creative, practical or sports as well as academic, so that we can equip them for life in our modern world.
In our most recent Annual Review the children said, they loved school and felt they were well-supported and cared for and compared their experiences here to being part of a very happy family.
At Buckland Newton we can offer you outstanding teaching and learning, excellent behaviour and a warm, safe and friendly Christian ethos where every individual is valued. We truly believe that your child’s education is very much a two-way partnership between home and school. My staff are part of a dedicated team who will do their utmost to ensure that your child’s time here is safe, happy, and productive.
I hope you enjoy finding out about our school and how we work together to ensure our pupils are happy, secure and successful – please come and meet us! We have lots of exciting projects taking place this year and are very much looking forward to all the opportunities on offer!
