The Government has provided extra money to all schools which has to be used specifically on developing Physical Education. This is known as Sport Premium Money.
In 2017/18 the school was awarded £16,810.
We have decided to continue to use the money to fund areas where we have noticed a definite impact in the access to physical eduation, and also to explore ways of improving the quality of provision.
Once again we have used Sport Premium Money to cover the supply and transport costs, so that six children could attend a Playground Leaders Course. The Sport Leaders have done an excellent job this year and continue to be involved with helping organise PE activities in the school. This year they have already run an internal cross country competition, and then presented taking part and winning certificates in an assembly. (If you have visited the latest news section of our website, you will see that the girls won the team event in the inter schools tournament). They have created a playground Rota so that children across the school can engage in fun playground games. In the Summer Term you will see the Playground Leaders coanching tennis and also setting up table tennis and a volleyball court for the children to use. In the Summer Term the Playground Leaders are also going to run a repeat of last year’s table tennis competiton and they also want to hold a rounders competition as well.
We have continued to use the Sport Premium money to fund our KS2 and KS1 after school clubs. In the first six weeks of the Spring Term the KS2 After School Club ran a table tennis club and in the Summer Term they are planning to coach Tri Golf.
We continue to feel that swimming is an important life skill, and consequently continue to use Sport Premium money to help with the transport costs. for the Years 4 to Year 6 to swim at Sherborne Sports Centre. We are pleased to report that this year all of our Year 6 children met the National Curriculum requirements for swimming and water safety.
Once again the Sport Premium Money will be used to allow the Year 5/6 children to undertake activities that they do not get the opportunity to take part in. The children will spend the day sailing, climbing and caving, under the specialist instruction of Weymouth Outdoor Education Centre staff.
We are also using Sport Premium Money to allow the PE Coordinator to attend relevant courses, and PLT meetings so that they are familiar with all the latest changes and initiatives in P.E.
We have used the Sport Premium Money to revamp our Sports Kit, and now have shirts that fit children in lower KS2 as well as upper KS2! We also took the opportunity to replace our aging netball kits.
We are always reviewing our sports equipment to make sure that the children have they best possible access to the different sports that they undertake. We have bought in aluminium football posts that have wheels that slot into the base. This has made setting up for friendly football matches much easier, but more importantly much safer. In the Summer Term we take part in a Inter Schools Quad Kids competition and have used our Sport Premium money to buy in the correct equipment such as the jump mats to help us prepare properly.
It has been a couple of years since we last offered cycle training, and so we have used our Sport Premium money to pay for Level 1 Bikeability training, for which there has been a very high take up.
As this year there has been an increased amount of money, it has allowed us to review the playground apparatus that we have and we are also investigating the provision of an all weather running track.
