On Tuesday 26th March, we welcomed Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service into school – they provided fire safety education lessons for Reception, Years 1, 2 and Year 5 as part of their Safe and Well Education Programme. The aim of the visit was to develop our children’s knowledge and understanding of fire safety, to help them and their families lead fire-safe lives and provide them with survival skills in the event of a fire. Important areas covered were: • Fire / burn prevention
• The importance of having working smoke alarms
• Fire escape plans and fire survival skills
• 999 emergency calls
We were delighted to be part of the new interactive and fun safety programme – the highlight for some of our children was to have a go with the water hose!
The children enjoyed a very informative morning which provided plenty of opportunity for meaningful follow-up work. Fire safety education sessions can make a vital contribution to PCSHE in school, as well as the children’s development. Many thanks to Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service – we had a great time!
