Sherborne Area Basketball Tournament - 9th February

On the afternoon of the 9th February, 8 children headed off to the Gryphon School to take part in the annual basketball tournament. The team played and won their first game against Bradford Abbas. Unfortunately they lost their next game against Trent, who were the eventual winners of the cup. The next game against Sherborne Primary was very close, at half time Buckland Newton were in the lead by two baskets to nil. However, Sherborne Primary came back strongly in the second half and eventually won the game, three baskets to two.

This meant that Buckland Newton were placed in the semi final of the plate competition, against Yetminster. The children really started to gel as a team, and won the match, which put them in the final against Bradford Abbas. The team were excited to be in the final, and sometimes this can lead to a nervous performance. However, as it turned out, the team saved their best basketball to the last game and as a result, as  you can see from the photos below, they ended up winning the plate.

The school would like to say a big THANK YOU to Mr. Bartle for organizing the tournament,  and to the Gryphon Sport Leaders who did a great job of refereeing the games.
