Football Tournament - 25th May

On Thursday 25th May, a group of Year 3/4 children took part in a football tournament against other schools from the Sherborne area. The team were nervous to start with and ended up losing their first couple of games. In their third game they managed a draw, which meant that they took part in the plate competition. In their plate games the team started to play with a little more confidence and overall the team came 7th

The Year 3/4 tournament was followed by the Year 5/6 girl's competiton. Right from the start the girls were motivated and through out the tournament they played brilliantly as a team. In the end, they only lost one game  and that was the semi final against Trent. It was a tense game. After two minutes the girls took the lead. However, just before half time the referee decided to award a free kick against them, which was just outside the box. The free kick was well taken and at half time it was 1-1. In the second half Trent scored again. However, the Buckland Newton girls refused to give up and it was only some brilliant saves by the Trent keeper that stopped the girls from going through to the final. In their last match they played Sherborne Primary, who they had drawn agianst earlier in the competition, and this time they beat them 1-0 which meant that they came third overall. Congratulations are due to Sherborne Abbey who ended up winning both trophies.

We would like to say a big THANKYOU to Ali Sparks, who organised the competition and to the Gryphon Sport Leaders who refereed the matches.
