Be still my beating heart … If you click on the video below you will see that Professor Tim Harrison, who is from Bristol University, uses this famous quotation at the end of one his experiments, and this experiment was just one of many that he carried out.

From the outset of his presentation, Professor Harrison explained how our air is made up of different gases and he challenged the children to think about their properties and how they might behave. Is nitrogen explosive? and does nitrogen smell? are an example of just a couple of the questions that he asked. The children were also asked to think about what would happen to a malleable plastic tube if it was placed into a container of liquid nitrogen. But is was what happened to a container of hydrogen when it was heated up that caused the hearts to beat fastest!

By the end, everyone agreed that it was an inspirational talk and that science is such an interesting subject to study and understand.
