Beech 2025

In Beech Class (Reception) we enjoy learning in the classroom and our fantastic outside classroom and outside area. The children take part in many different activities including adult led and play based activities. We enjoy lots of different topics. Most of our activities are based around our topics. These are:

Autumn Term

Let’s Explore
This project teaches children about the environments that they share with others, including their homes, school and places in the local community.

Build It Up
This project teaches children about structures and materials and gives them the opportunity to work in groups to create collaborative structures.

Long Ago
This project teaches children about how they have grown and changed since they were babies and how life in the past was different from today.

Sparkle and Shine
This project teaches children about the celebrations that take place during the autumn and winter seasons and focus on the significance and symbolism of light at this time of year.

Spring Term

Dangerous Dinosaurs
This exciting project teaches children about the different animals that roamed Earth millions of years ago and how they are related to animals that live on Earth today.

Stories and Rhymes
This project teaches children about traditional stories and rhymes and gives them the opportunity to play with words and learn new vocabulary.

Creep, Crawl and Wriggle
This project teaches children about invertebrates that live in their gardens and local environment.

Animal Safari
This project teaches children about the animals that live around the world, how to look after animals and the importance of caring for our local and global environments.

Summer Term

Ready Steady Grow
This project teaches children about food and farming and explores themes, including where food comes from, what plants and animals need to grow and survive and what constitutes a healthy lifestyle.

On the Beach
This project teaches children about the plants and animals that live at the seaside. It also explores holidays in the past and the importance of keeping safe in the Sun.

Splash!
This project teaches children about water, including floating and sinking, freezing and melting, and why it is important for living things to stay hydrated.

Moving On
This project celebrates the children’s successes throughout their Reception year. It explores how they have grown and changed and supports them with the changes to come as they move into Year 1.

The Reception children will be introduced to 3 letter sounds each week and will be given follow up sheets to take home.  These are for information with tasks you can do with your child, if you would like to. They will be introduced to simple words and reading books at appropriate times. We use Supersonic Phonic Friends as our phonics scheme.

Our timetabled PE days will be Thursday and Friday. Please could children leave their PE bags on their pegs in the cloakroom for the whole half term.  We will however let you know if it needs to be washed in the meantime.  Please can you ensure all clothing is named including tights and socks to help ensure your child puts on the right clothes after PE lessons!  Please could children, also keep a spare change of school uniform and underwear in a separate bag just in case of any accidents.

Please could all children have wellies in school as we like to go outside in all weather.  Each child is assigned one of our school splash suits to wear on wet days so we can have lots of fun splashing in puddles and playing outside.  We do have some wellies to lend out if needed.

We will be using Dojo to show you photos of what we have been up to at school.  There should be at least 1 photo of each child each week.

Please could everyone have a water bottle for during the school day and keep it on the shelf and not in their bags.  It should contain water only.  Please could we also remind you that children should not bring toys to school.

Mrs Leather will be working Monday, Tuesday and Friday.
Mrs Mitchell will be working Wednesday and Thursday.

Thank you for your support

Mrs Helen Leather and Mrs Jo Mitchell
